Court confirms ex-president of Ecuador prison sentence
The conviction of ex-President of Ecuador Rafael Correa in the corruption case on September 7 was upheld by a decision of the national court of Ecuador. This was reported by the television channel Ecuavisa. During the meeting, the court decided to reject the cassation appeal filed by the ex-president against the decision of the court of appeal, which at the end of July confirmed the verdict of the court of first instance on eight years in prison for corruption crimes. The court also confirmed the sentences of former Deputy Correa Jorge Glas and several other former high-ranking officials of the presidential and government administration of Bolivia. Recall that Correa, currently living in Belgium, was recognized as the organizer of a criminal scheme involving employees of the state apparatus and sentenced by an absentee court to eight years in prison. According to the news agency, in July, the former President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, failed to achieve in court the abolition of the sentence of eight years in prison.
