Italian authorities allocated farmers 250 million euros in compensation for damage from the epidemic
Italian Ministers of Labor and Economy Nuncia Catalfo and Roberto Gualtieri on Wednesday, June 17, signed a decree allocating 250 million euros to the fund for supporting agricultural workers. The allocation of funds is provided for by a previously approved decree of the Government of the country to support workers affected by the coronavirus epidemic and the economic restrictions caused by it. The number of confirmed media increased by 210 (a day earlier by 301). Taking into account the recovered and dead, the total number of carriers of coronavirus for the entire time of the epidemic is 237,500. On March 22, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced the suspension of all enterprises in the country, except strategic ones, as well as all trade institutions, with the exception of pharmacies and grocery stores. More than 7 million working citizens were sent to quarantine, about half of the enterprises were suspended. Even earlier, in the first half of March, separate restrictions were introduced for some areas of the economy and the most affected regions. The authorities forbade citizens to move around the country (except in cases of extreme necessity), canceled all mass events, closed schools and universities. All entertainment centres and catering establishments were discontinued. Citizens were advised to minimize all optional contacts, checks were carried out on the streets, fines for quarantine violators were increased. Multibillion-dollar losses are projected for the economy due to the lack of tourists and a decrease in production and exports; at the end of the year, GDP will decrease by 10 15%, experts say, the country's authorities believe that the fall will be 8 9%. Government projects to support the economy involve the allocation of 7 5 billion euros, part of these funds has already been allocated. Direct payments to the business amounted to about 10 billion euros. Self-employed citizens were able to twice receive an allowance of 600,800 euros, and they can also take a loan in a simplified manner up to 25 thousand euros. In addition, support was provided to seasonal workers, migrants and domestic workers. From EU funds, Italian companies will be able to receive up to 170 billion euros, most of these funds are credit. Since May 4, 2020, some restrictions have been eased, 4 million people have returned to work. Catering establishments began to sell food skills, walks in parks, visits to close relatives and the use of public transport were allowed.
