Crime can be reduced. But not here and now - Igor Yudkevich

The current events in the United States, which began with the murder of Floyd, in a new way unfolded the topic of law and order for this country. And if some demand that the police be dismissed altogether, others insist that this would amount to suicide. Benjamin Van Roy, professor of international law at the University of California, Irvine and professor of law and society at the University of Amsterdam and Adam Fine, associate professor of criminology and criminal justice, psychology and law at Arizona State University insist there is a third way. In the article How to Reduce Crime by Reducing Punishment, published in The Hill, they express the idea that the key to a successful fight against crime is not the severity of punishment (and not even its inevitability), but the understanding of what is the cause of crime and what role punishment and law enforcement agencies play in this.
