Number of victims of collapse of hotel building in eastern China increased to 18
The death toll from the collapse of a hotel building in Fujian Province in eastern China rose to 18, Xinhua News Agency reported on March 10. Fifty-nine people have already been recovered from the rubble of the Xinjia Hotel in the Licheng district of Quanzhou as of 6:50 p.m. local time on March 10. There are 18 deaths among them. During the collapse of the building, 71 people were under the rubble. Rescue workers are searching for another 12 people who are missing. On Monday night, a 10-year-old boy and his mother were recovered alive from the rubble 52 hours later. According to the news agency, the construction of the collapsed building with an area of 7,000 square meters began in 2013, and it was converted into a hotel in 2018.
