OECD experts: Latvia's able-bodied population will decrease by 40% by 2060
The expert study Pensions at a Glance 2019 of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) states that by 2060 the population of Latvia between the ages of 20 and 64 will decrease by 40%, writes the portal nra.lv. Overall, in 36 OECD countries, the share of this population group will decrease by 10%. Experts note that the high rate of decline in the share of the working-age population poses a threat to the functioning of Latvia's pension system. The report noted that in the age group over 65 years, 32.7% had a risk of poverty and their income level did not exceed 50% of the average. By the 75 of the year, the risk of poverty was rising to 40%.
